Wish me luck!

As photographers, I think we probably all have our heroes – other photographers that we look up to, watch and learn from, seek tips to success, and in general just drool over their work.  I have many of my own, but one is a fabulously funny, talented, and engaging Seattle photographer: Laurel McConnell.  She is witty and fun and just plain good at what she does, so I love following her on her blog.  One of her unique and brilliant ideas is Cupcake Thursday.  On certain special Thursdays, chosen in various ways – needing sustenance to persevere in tax time, wanting to make cute toddlers cuter with cupcake frosting, or just on a random whim – a beautiful and yummy cupcake is acquired and creatively photographed.  Recently, she extended the fun to her readers with a Cupcake Thursday contest, made sweeter with the lure of Totally Rad Lightroom Presets as the winning prize.  Check them out, they are, well, totally RAD!

So, with with visions of sugary cakes in my head and bursting with creative energy, I submitted my version of Cupcake Thursday.  Entering included sharing a little description and “method to the madness,” which is included below the image.  So, without further ado, please enjoy my “Spring Fever” cupcake photo submission.  I’ll let you know anything if interesting happens when the results come in on Thursday, March 4th!

Spring Fever

We have an abundance of snow and ice here in the Colorado foothills right now.  It feels to me like winter has been here long enough.  Is it time for margaritas, bright flowers, and orange crème-cicle cupcakes, yet?  I’m definitely yearning for warmth; I have spring fever en force!

To portray my yearning photographically, I started with a basic little bright orange frosted cupcake, and spruced it up with one of my favorite blooms:  the daisy.  With warm celebrations often come las margaritas, so I figured this would be an appropriate, as well as a fun and unique, serving platter for my little cup of cake.  It is also important to note that the glass is garnished not with salt, but sugar, which is much more fitting for the contents inside.  The ice still hanging out on our patio table serves as the contrasting backdrop.

Enjoy!
